Goin’s On; Arkansas Folk Center and Blanchard Caverns

There’s always something going on in Mountain View Arkansas, the Folk Music Capitol of the World, but the highlights are activities at the Ozark Folk Center, and Blanchard Springs Caverns; well all that live music every Saturday night at the courthouse square is pretty special!

What I’m most interested in right now is the Sumptuous Herb Harvest Supper Thursday September 30; part of the Herb Harvest Festival.

Genovese Basil from my garden.

“October 1 – 2, 2010
This Herb Harvest Fall Festival marks the beginning of a sojourn around the Mediterranean Sea. This year we begin in The Cradle of Western Civilization, with a focus on Greece and Turkey. We will travel clockwise around the shore during the next several fall herb events in order to explore how Mediterranean herbs affected our ancestors and continue to enhance our lives in the present day. Applying this knowledge to the Ozark region, we will bring experts to speak on herbal topics related to agriculture, cuisine, culture, gardening, medicine, textiles and trade.”

Presenters include;

Dr. James E. Simon of Rutgers University

Susan Belsinger, culinary educator, food writer, photographer, co-writer of “The Creative Herbal Home” with Tina Marie Wilcox

Tina Marie Wilcox, head gardener and herbalist, Ozark Folk Center’s Heritage Herb Garden in Mountain View, Arkansas since 1984, co-writer of “The Creative Herbal Home”

Hope to see you all there!

If you don't get your fill elsewhere remember to visit Tommy's famous, some of the best pizza I've ever had. Maybe just the BEST pizza I've ever had. I better get a free pizza out of this Tommy!

Amazingly enough, I don’t seem to have a single photo of the Ozark Folk center. You can bet I will remedy that fairly soon!
